Customer photo review of Peony Poppy Seeds - Antique Shades

These were gorgeous when they bloomed. The flower head is a bit susceptible to the weather. If you get a heavy rain while one is in bloom, the petals all mush together and rot. Plus they're a very heavy flower head so they tend to end up on the ground or facing down. I do think 2nd year plants will improve. They bloomed rather late since they were seed started. They seemed to germinate rather easily. I had plenty that were successful

Another poppy fail with scattering as directed. Next year I will be using the winter sowing plastic bag method which yielded a great amount of other varieties.

Store owner replied: Hello Deb Elle. Thank you for taking the time to review this product. Peony poppies generally perform best when sown in late fall or very early spring, as they prefer cool conditions for germination and do not transplant well. They should be scattered on the soil surface or covered only very lightly, since planting too deeply, fluctuating moisture, or warming temperatures can all reduce germination. Your plan to try the winter sowing method next season is a great one and often provides the cool, consistent conditions that poppies prefer. We are pleased we were able to work with you directly and find a resolution. Thank you for sharing your experience, and we hope your next planting brings you the beautiful blooms you were looking forward to!
