    Overall rating: 2.3 / 5 from 7 reviews.

After several heartbreaking attempts at coneflower germination—I finally found the “magic”. Coneflowers, unlike some seeds, do better being in total darkness until they sprout. I accomplish this by using the normal tray with good seed mix BUT I cover the seeds either a thin layer of vermiculite and put the dome on and I do not put them under the light. THEN after a week and a half or two weeks— you know just when you’re about to give up and go outside and kick rocks—it happens —they pop up!! Like magic. This has made my germination rate almost 80-90%. On coneflower. Oh—after they pop up—then yes—LIGHT!!

I was really looking forward to adding these shades of red and yellow to my already pink and purple echinacea, but nothing germinated.

The photos are very misleading and would cost thousands of dollars in seeds. I placed an order for a bunch of different seeds. A couple of the packets were around $10 for an ounce. Knowing echinacea is fairly common I assumed this packet for $10.99 would be similar. Imagine my surprise when the packet arrived and had 15 seeds! FIFTEEN SEEDS! Why so stingy?! What is the ratio of seeds to actual successful plants making it to flower? I paid for a variety of coneflowers but will be lucky to have any variety.
