I have a natural stone pathway in front of my urban home and used Eden Brothers creeping thyme to fill in the areas around the path. I started the seeds indoors and transplanted outside. The pathway with the thyme that you see in the photo has been established for about 2 years now. The flowers aren't as purple/pink as what is shown in the images, but they are still pretty and the bees love it. I really love this groundcover and it is very easy to grow. By early to mid summer I have go out with some gardening shears and give everything a "haircut" so I can see my path again. When it "jumps" the path and tries to grow inside the garden beds I just dig it out and plant it somewhere that needs a little filling in. I rarely if ever water it once it was established. I love it so much I'm about to buy more seeds to plant in a "hellstrip" on the side of my yard near the street to help beat back the weeds. I have found that once this creeping thyme is established and "knitted" through to make a thick carpet, very few weeds can get through.
Started the seeds indoors, some with grow lights some without and found germination on all the trays 3 days later!
Pictures are at day 5.
I got 1 oz of seeds for 200 sq ft. I did get the product as described, but I was still surprised how little 1oz of seeds is. (Picture of the shaker is after I planted the trays). I used a seasoning shaker to spread the seeds across planting trays.
Given the bad reviews here and bad previous experience with other companies, I had low expectations. (I’ve tried multiple times, multiple ways to complete this project spending hundreds of $ before coming to Eden Seeds). I was not even checking the seeds after planting, not expecting them to germinate for a few weeks. I was surprised to accidentally find decent growth within 3 days. I planted 10 10”x20” trays indoors only using a fraction of the seeds provided.
Very happy with my purchase.
So I was pretty skeptical about getting these because of the reviews and everything about hard to grow. I did end up ordering and tried two different ways to germinate them. One was in a micro green grower with a hemp mat, the other was a good old rotisserie chicken container. In a couple of days the chicken container was up and all of them sprouted, the hemp was a couple days later and not all of them grew. So excited and can’t wait to plant them in my area! I think if I can get them to grow anyone can!
Started these indoors by spreading seeds on top of standard Miracle-Grow Potting soil.
Covered pots with celephane and watered from the tray.
Germinated in less than a week and are slowly growing.
Will transplant when warm weather arrives.
Very pleased with the germination rate and progress.
Would Highly Recommend these seeds. Five Stars.
I tried growing these a variety of ways: winter sowing, indoors and in small pots outside mid June. (Im zone 5) All were successful. I didn’t want to direct sow so I didn’t lose track of the seeds or have them wash away. Just kept them moist and they did great
unfortunately i am in the same boat as the other reviewer who received lemon thyme instead of creeping thyme. lemon thyme is about 6" tall and doesn't 'creep' along the ground. looks bad in-between my stone patio pavers and I will have to tear it all out.

Hello Catherine. Thank you for your review and we understand and apologize for your frustration! Our Creeping Thyme is a spreading ground cover variety, but it is not the very low-growing "elfin" type that some gardeners may be familiar with. Under normal growing conditions, it typically reaches about 4–8 inches in height while continuing to spread outward and form a dense mat over time. Depending on growing conditions, it can appear more upright than expected, particularly during active growth. We are glad we were able to connect with you directly and provide a resolution that addressed your concerns. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, as feedback like yours helps other gardeners better understand the growth habit of this variety and helps us continue improving our product information. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to make things right!
I didn't want to deal with starting them indoors. We have red clay in this area. I took my garden weasel and tilled up the red clay. I mixed some of it with garden soil; just a few turns, nothing crazy. Then I just sprinkled them all over both the tilled red clay and the mixed clay, patted them down into the soil and very sparingly covered with pinestraw. Happy to say I have a nice batch growing. Not all of them, but enough for what I wanted. The ones in the mixed clay and dirt sprouted more than the solid clay, so I'll probably transplant some when they get bigger.
Started these in seed trays indoors in January, only 5 weeks later they fully germinated and I have been surprised at their quick growth and spread. Should be able to plant in early spring.
Very disappointed in that I planted these seeds (4 packets) in a sunny area around some stones this past Spring and not a single bit of them produced any plants, even after keeping watered and following planting instructions. Very disappointing!!

Hello Debbie H. Thank you for your review for us at Eden Brothers! We really appreciate you reaching out and sharing your experience. Feedback like yours is incredibly helpful as we work to improve our products. Creeping thyme can sometimes be tricky to start from seed because the seeds are extremely small, need light to germinate, and require consistently warm soil (65–70°F) and steady surface moisture to sprout. If the soil dried out even briefly during germination, or if the seeds were covered too deeply, they may have failed to establish. Additionally, thyme often has slow and uneven germination, sometimes taking 14–28 days, which can make it appear like nothing is happening when in fact the process is just delayed. Starting seeds indoors in trays or on a protected surface before transplanting can improve success rates. We're glad our Customer Service Team was able to assist you, and we truly appreciate the opportunity to make things right. Wishing you a wonderful growing season!
I was very pleased with the germination rate on these seeds. I started them in a seed tray and over the summer have repotted them a couple times and they are currently in 4-inch pots. Once the heat of summer has passed I will plant them out on top of my retaining wall where hopefully they thrive and get established well by next summer.
I was so excited when I saw these start to sprout a year after I grew them. Unfortunately the seeds in the packet weren’t creeping thyme they were lemon thyme so now I have the problem of lemon thyme (which is tall) growing between my stepping stones

I planted them in two beds. They started coming, lots of them, then the deer ate them. I will start them inside and wait until I have some substantial plants to start outside.

Hello Alfredo. Thanks so much for your review! We greatly appreciate your feedback on this matter. We're always looking for ways to improve our products and service and will certainly take your information into account. While creeping thyme is wonderful once it gets going it can sometimes be a bit more challenging to get the germination down. It likes when nighttime temps are consistently above 50°F and daytime temps are 65–75°F. Germination takes 14–28 days, sometimes longer if temps fluctuate as well. We're happy that we were able to come to a satisfactory resolution for you and look forward to continuing gardening with you!
I bought several packets of these about 3-4 years ago . I stopped waiting for something to grow . After all this time I finally gave up waiting . ( I was told to give it couple years because someone else said theirs started coming up after few years)
I create a solid layer of compost and top soil, but no seeds sprouted. I checked the reviews, and was relieved (i guess) that I wasn't the only one. Not sure why they didn't grow. =/

These seeds never germinated. I followed the instructions and got nothing. Disappointed!
This was among several seed packets I purchased and planted last year that did not grow. I had a similar experience with the zinnia, perennial blue flax and California poppy seeds. Very disappointing. The creeping daisy and sunflowers I purchased were spectacular, however, and I will likely purchase these again.
I was so excited about this and it didn’t grow at all and the packet had very little seeds which as a perennial seems weird. Other seeds from Eden work that’s why I was surprised. Not sure if I will order.

I have started these seeds indoors and directly into the ground and had great success with both methods. After four years, I need to replace some plants that did not come back this spring. It’s likely they have come to the end of their life cycle. They had a good run though, surviving Maine winters and providing a colorful border and treats for the bees. I would highly recommend this creeping thyme from Eden Brothers.

I gave these little seeds my all. We had egg cartons all over my kitchen trying to get them to grow before transplanting. I got some tiny green sprouts (1/8th inch) and they kept not growing. they were carefully tended and when transplanted outside after it warmed up a bit, they just died. Wish I hadn't put all that effort in.

My creeping thyme seeds of last year, never germinated. I wondered if it was due to our having
such a rainy spring and summer?

Planted and watered per guidelines, but absolutely no results. Seems to be a common issue, given other reviews of these seeds. Not recommended.

I planted these in late spring in Washington state. I could barely see the seeds and had trouble spreading them out. I consistently watered and they never sprouted. I'm really disappointed. I also wish there were more quantity options seeing as the small bag has so few and the large bag is extremely expensive.

I've been buying seeds from Eden Brothers for several years, because they are generally of good quality and have high germination results. With these creeping thyme seeds, however, I had no luck at all. I planted and faithfully "misted" the seeds for a couple of weeks per the package instructions. I have no idea what went wrong but not a single seed sprouted. (The alyssum seeds, on the other hand, did quite well).

I ordered a pack to try and grow some ground cover in North Georgia. I understood it was hot out in September so I planted half in a tray inside and the remaining half outside. About 5 weeks in and I haven't had any growth yet. I contacted Eden brothers and they had a very informative response recommending: "please note, we strongly advise to plant Creeping Thyme in the Spring when they temperatures are consistently in the 60's or above. However, below 80 as the heat can be abrasive on the seedlings trying to establish themselves and lead to failure". That seems like a narrow temperature window, but maybe what the plants need to be successful. Eden brothers was very nice and offered me a credit. I will keep shopping with them, but maybe a different plant variety.

There were so few of these, and they are so tiny, that it’s impossible to handle them without some kind of surgical tweezers and huge magnifier. Trying to handle them with bare hands, I couldn’t get 2-3 seeds separated out for each planting spot, and managingthem as well as I could by hand, I ran out in just a couple of square feet.
I wish I’d ordered the ounce, despite the $43 price tag, but I got a late start and the shipping takes soooo long that I’m afraid I may have missed the window for this year if I try to re-order now. Really disappointed that there wasn’t some kind of heads-up about the challenges of handling so few seeds this tiny. Really, they’re like grains of sand and I could have fit the entire package worth under one fingernail. Argh.

I was surprised of the amount there was in the package. They are super tiny but I could count them quite easily. It is little disappointing. Now I need to hope they will germinate indoor. I’ll update in a few weeks.

Started these tiny seeds indoors which started well. Some seeds I accidentally dropped into other containers and they sprouted.
I transferred them outdoors into a container and it grew well with no fertilizing and sometimes very infrequent watering. It grew over and off the pot a little, which was pretty. I eventually transferred the plant into the garden in-ground in the fall and it overwintered nicely. It is nearly a year old since I've started it from seed and it has sprouted new growth since the winter. It is growing in an urban environment with very hot summers, so not the ideal plant condition, but it has done well. It has yet to flower, but I expect the flowers to come this year. I have two packets left and plan on directly sowing a few to see how they do.
This is my favorite flowering creeper. There are other creeping plants like: https://gardeningtheme.com/theme/10-creeping-plants-for-your-garden , but creeping thyme is easy to grow from seed its maitanance-free and very beautiful.
I had no idea that people generally have a hard time growing thyme from seed. When I got these last fall, I threw them down generously over the spaces in between a previously totally overgrown stone patio we just dug up. Then the first snow came. The spring, this plant germinated beautifully over the entire area and grew in all season. Looks wonderful and has claimed it's area very well against any intruders. Easiest planting I've ever done! Glad I was totally ignorant of the warnings because it worked out great.
The internet warned me that it's near-impossible to grow creeping thyme from seed... Everything I read told me I'd be better off with plugs ($$$). I was nervous and careful and waited weeks and weeks until the ground temperature was consistently above 65. I babied these seeds once I pressed them into the dirt with three-times-a-day watering because folks were saying they're so temperamental, then I sat back to wait the long 7-14 days for germination. JUST FOUR DAYS LATER, a full pound of these is sprouting over 4000 glorious square feet with super-high propagation. Don't be afraid to plant from seed--especially Eden Brothers seed!!
I planted these a week ago and they're popping up so quickly! I am super impressed with these seeds and I can't wait to see them in bloom. Highly recommended.
