    This was the first time I grew dahlias from seeds instead of tubers, and they definitely took longer to grow and bloom, which makes perfect sense. These are so bright and cheery! All of the seeds I planted gave scarlet red flowers. Very lovely. All flowers shown in photos were from eden brothers.

    One of my absolute favorites in the garden. Each bud opens like a present, and you don't know what color you're going to get, from shades of the deepest blood red through magenta, creamy buff, or the softest yellow. The leaves are near-black or deep purple (the leaves -- even the shape of them! -- differs from plant to plant) And unlike other dahlia types, these "open" flowers are accessible to pollinators. These were simple and very quick to grow from seed; once you've decided which color flower you want to keep in your garden forever, you can just dig up the tubers and store for the following year. But they're worth growing as annuals. Love them.
