Customer photo review of Hosta Roots - White Feather

Hello! I was super excited for these white hostas!! They came up white, but then a few weeks later turned green!! They were planted in a garden bed that gets partial sun for roughly 5 hours out of the day. Are they getting too much sun? I dug them up and potted them, moved them to a shadier spot to see if that was the problem! Do you think its the soil? Will they come back white next year?! Need advice!

    Hosta Roots - White Feather

Store owner replied: Hello Sabrina. Thank you for your review. We are glad your hosta emerged successfully, though we understand why you were surprised when the white leaves gradually turned green. This is actually normal for many white hosta varieties. They often emerge bright white in spring and then gradually develop green coloration as the season progresses because the plant needs chlorophyll to produce energy. While sunlight can influence how quickly the leaves green up, this color change is a natural part of the plant's growth cycle rather than a sign of a soil or planting issue. Moving it to a shadier location may help the white color last a bit longer, and you can expect the first flush of leaves to emerge white again next spring before gradually greening. We previously reached out with this information and offered a resolution but have not yet heard back. If you still have questions or would like further assistance, please reply directly to the email we sent. At Eden Brothers, we stand behind our products and are always here to help our gardeners enjoy the beautiful results they were looking forward to!

Ordered 4 roots in fall’24 and only two came out in spring. They didn’t do that great and turned green rather than white. This is the 2nd spring and look at them! White and beautiful as expected.

I got white feather and blue mouse ear hosta and they’re growing so great! We had a cold spell and I was worried but they are THRIVING!!! I can’t wait to see them fully grown! Added some random growth pics From first planted to pics I took took today

    Hosta Roots - White Feather

Planted 10 roots in the fall. No sign of these as of May 18th. All other hostas, including new roots purchased from Eden Brothers, have come up.

    Hosta Roots - White Feather

Store owner replied: Hello Maria. Thank you for sharing your experience with this variety. We’re sorry to hear that none of the roots had emerged by mid-May, especially when your other hostas, including recent Eden Brothers purchases, were already showing growth. Hostas can occasionally emerge at different times depending on the variety, planting depth, soil temperatures, and local weather conditions, but we understand your concern given the lack of growth from all ten roots. We appreciate the opportunity to provide a resolution and are glad to hear you were happy with the outcome. Thank you for your patience and feedback. We always stand behind our products and want our customers to have success in their gardens!

I planted these between several coral bell varieties and while the coral bells (local nursery) are doing wonderful, I’ve yet to see evidence of these, as well as the other hosta I received in the same order. I’m sure they would have been beautiful.

    Hosta Roots - White Feather

Store owner replied: Hello Shelli. Thank you for your review. We’re sorry to hear you didn’t see any growth from the hostas, especially alongside your thriving coral bells. Hostas can sometimes be slower to emerge, particularly depending on spring soil temperatures and conditions, but we understand how disappointing that experience can be. We ae glad we were able to provide a resolution and truly appreciate the opportunity to help. We’re always here to support your success in the garden, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything further!

These roots looked superb on delivery. Happiest roots I’ve ever seen. Within two days they have sprouted from the soil, I cannot wait to watch them unfold!

    Hosta Roots - White Feather

Both roots sprouted for me. I read somewhere to immediately get them in dirt so I put them in pots inside when received. They're now hardened off and ready to go as soon as I figure out where to put them 😅.

    Hosta Roots - White Feather

The hosts instantly started to grow, albeit in the dead of winter. So it is very small but currently still appears to be happy. Only 3 out of 4 hosta's sprouted.

    Hosta Roots - White Feather

I ordered this hosta (2 roots). Neither sprouted for me. Bummer, and a waste of money.

    Hosta Roots - White Feather

Store owner replied: Hello Jennifer H. Thank you for your review, and we’re sorry to hear your hosta roots haven’t sprouted yet. In planting zones like yours, hosta roots often remain dormant through the winter and typically emerge in early spring. We’ve noted your order and fully expect you’ll see growth as the weather warms. If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out, as our Customer Service team is happy to help at 855-440-2929 or service@edenbrothers.sbs. We understand the disappointment, but with a little patience, we’re confident you’ll be enjoying your hostas next spring!

Planted these last fall but they never came up this spring.

    Hosta Roots - White Feather

Store owner replied: Hello Mother Goose. Thanks for your review of Eden Brothers. We are sorry to hear your White Feather Hosta Roots didn’t come up this spring. Sometimes hostas fail to emerge due to factors like overly wet soil, deep planting, or freeze-thaw damage over winter. After speaking with our Customer Service Team, it seems we were able to help you with this. Thanks for your time in sharing your experience with us!

It's currently June 4th, 2025. Planted these after they shipped last fall and they never came up.

I could not be more pleased with the two White Feather hostas I received. The delivery time after placing my order was quite short, a matter of days. The shipping carton was very well constructed and provided great protection for these young plants. These two young plants arrived each with multiple bright white leaves and a well established root system on each plant. For the time being, I immediately planted them in a pot, and they are thriving; no evidence of stress related to shipping and transplanting observed. Thanks so much for the beautiful specimens!

    Hosta Roots - White Feather

planted in a partial shady area. 3 never grow, and the only 1 remained very small. it's very green, not white.

These look so pretty in the pictures and I had such high hopes! I planted them in pots right away and they started sprouting and when they looked large enough, I transplanted them to my shade garden with other hostas that are thriving there, but they look sad and their leaves are so thin and have holes in them. Maybe they need more sun than other hostas? I’m not sure what to do but I’m skeptical they will make it.

I ordered four White Feather Hostas and planted them in different locations. They all emerged in Spring. At first they emerged looking beautifully, but within a week +, they have turned looking rather dreadful. The fact that they all look like this despite being planted in separate locations leads me to believe that it's something with the plant. All of them just look sick and weak for no reason. I'm going to continue to monitor as we head into the summer, but I'm more inclined to take these out of my garden. They definitely do do not look anywhere near as healthy or vigorous as even my youngest hostas that I have.

I received my White Feather Hosta roots and they were already sprouting! I wasn’t quite ready to plant them so I spritzed the roots with a little water each day until I got them in their planter. They did very well with the initial spritzing and we shall see how they do as the season progresses!

    Hosta Roots - White Feather

These came on time and were in good shape and I planted them immediately. They are in a partially shady area where other things are thriving. This year they definitely came up, but they really didn’t do much once they came up so I’m going to give them another year and let them get truly established before I make a judgment.

These were planted within 1 day of arrival last fall (they shipped later than the description specified at the time), and they were planted exactly as specified. None have emerged, as of April 27.

I had ordered these for fall planting, but they were backordered. By the time the spring batch was shipping I hadn't heard about my backordered order. I contacted customer service and got a prompt reply back. They apologized for it being overlooked and immediately sent out my hostas. They arrived in excellent condition and now are growing wonderfully. For those who are hoping for what the picture looks like I suggest you do some research. These hostas do emerge white, but as they age begin to turn green. This is because they need the green color in order to photosynthesize, otherwise they would not survive. But next year when they emerge again they should be white, turn green, and repeat again and again.

    Hosta Roots - White Feather

The plants arrived in perfect condition and are already growing nicely. Looking forward to seeing the plant in maturity.
