Lupine Seeds - Hartwegii Mix

Also called Hartweg's Bluebonnet, these cute little Lupine seeds bloom in the classic bonnet shaped floret along a tall spike, but Hartwegii Lupine have a looser configuration to the blooms, giving them a more wild look.

*Seed scarification advised for lupine seeds (Nicking or scaring seeds with hard seed coatings before planting helps the seeds absorb water. After scarification, soak seeds in water overnight before planting. This will jump-start germination and get your garden growing faster.)

I had a lot of luck getting these to germinate, both starting indoors in trays and outdoors in trays! Unfortunately, very few of them survived being transferred to larger containers- and even less survived being planted in-ground. I'm going to try them again next year, maybe starting in a larger container or direct-sowing to alleviate some shock. Fingers crossed, these are just so lovely.

Store owner replied: Hello LittleCatLittleBean. Thank you for taking the time to write in a review. We are sorry these did not work out for you. Annual lupine seeds have a tough outer coating, so gently rubbing them with sandpaper or soaking them in room-temperature water for 12–24 hours before planting can help improve germination. Lupines develop long taproots and can be sensitive to transplanting, so direct sowing is best. If starting indoors, use deep biodegradable pots to minimize root disturbance, transplant while seedlings are young, and gradually harden them off before moving outdoors. Keep the soil consistently moist but well-drained. We are glad our customer care team was able to set up a resolution for you, so you can have more successful results in the future!

These germinated very well but I’ve been a little disappointed by the blooms…. Most of them stayed quite small, only a few rows of petals on each bloom. I’m not sure if this is a plant issue or possibly where I located them. I plan on trying again because I looked forward to these blooms and the colors on the small stems I got were very nice

Store owner replied: Hello Heather. Thank you for your review of Eden Brothers! We’re glad to hear you had strong germination, though we understand the blooms weren’t quite what you hoped for. Location and growing conditions can definitely affect flower size, so we’re happy to hear you plan to try again. We appreciate your feedback and are glad you enjoyed the beautiful colors you did see!

Very pastel, sweet flowers. I tried sandpapering seeds in one side of the tray and didn't sandpaper the other half- equal germination! Germinated very easily, but heat sensitive so be gentle with hardening process and water plenty in the summer.

Very pretty, but I sowed the entire packet and only had one plant germinate. Lovely flower, though, and the plant produces many stems.
