The Darwin Hybrid Tulips were created by crossing the Fosteriana Tulips with the old Darwin Tulips (now part of the Single Late Class). Among the tallest of all tulips (18 to 30 Inches tall), Darwin Hybrids offer big, showy flowers that stand out in spring gardens. Blooms can reach 6 inches in diameter when fully open!

Because of their long stems, lovely pyramid shape, and brilliant colors, Darwin Hybrid Tulips are often considered the very best type of tulip to raise for cut flowers. However, there are definite advantages to growing them for beds and borders, especially in areas where they can be sheltered from strong winds.

Unlike many types of tulip which only look good for the first couple of years, Darwin Hybrid Tulips will often come year after year (provided you don't cut the leaves off after blooming). As a result, you will sometimes hear them called "perennial" tulips. Darwin Hybrid Tulips flower late, in May so you may want to plant along some earlier tulip varieties so you enjoy tulips throughout the entire spring season.

Darwin Hybrid Tulips are among the better tulip types for perennializing, but their return can still depend on growing conditions and cannot be guaranteed every year. Insufficient winter cold, soil that remains too wet and causes the bulbs to rot, poor drainage, or wildlife feeding on the bulbs can all affect whether they successfully return. We are glad we were able to provide a resolution that you were happy with, and we hope your next planting gives you the beautiful spring display and repeat blooms that you were looking forward to!

    My husband and I were just commenting on how these were so much taller than the rest and more robust! This is season 2, after 115 degree heat 2 summers and 12 degree winters. You bet I'm ordering more. I'm removing lawn for more colorful spring cheer.
