Customer photo review of Peony Roots - Old Faithful

Truly, I am impressed thus far, don’t do what I have done- but I initially ordered 5 roots in September of 2024..and gave a couple to my MIL and intended to plant the remaining roots in my garden..well that did not happen…they lived in the bags of dirt they were shipped in for over a YEAR. Granted, I did open them and occasionally water them..they went through quite the neglect…I finally got around to planting the remaining 3 shoots in late September of 2025. I couldn’t bring myself to throw them out. I first noticed today- April 10 of 2025 one of them has sprung up and is starting to emerge! I can’t wait to watch it mature over the spring and summer!

Store owner replied: Hello Karen R. Thank you for sharing your experience with this variety. We are sorry your peony didn’t make it through its first season. In Zone 8, a late-May planting can be challenging for a newly planted peony root, as summer heat can arrive quickly before it has had much time to establish. Peonies do best in well-draining soil with consistent moisture that never stays soggy, and the eyes should generally be planted only about 1–2 inches below the soil surface. A light layer of mulch can also help moderate soil temperature and moisture during hot weather. We are glad we were able to provide a resolution and that you’re willing to give Old Faithful another try. We hope your next planting establishes beautifully and rewards you with many years of blooms!

I bought three roots of old faithful. Two out of three came up. They are very small with only a few leaves coming out of ground. I didn't expect them to bloom the 1st year, but I was expecting more of a plant/bush the 1st year. I don't know if the color is as expected since they have not bloomed yet.

Store owner replied: Hello Melinda. Thank you for your review. We are glad to hear that two of your three Old Faithful peonies emerged, though we're sorry they have not met your expectations so far! Peonies are often slow to establish, especially during their first growing season. It's common for newly planted roots to produce only a few stems and leaves while they focus on developing a strong root system underground. Many peonies do not reach their full size or bloom potential until their second or third year in the garden. We previously reached out to offer assistance and a resolution but have not yet heard back. If you'd still like help, please reply to that email, and we'd be happy to review your concerns further. At Eden Brothers, we stand behind our products and are always here to help our gardeners succeed!
