I purchased a packed of zinnia marylandica from Eden Brothers over the winter and planted them in May. The plants that are growing from these seeds are Amaranthe, not Zinnia. I am very disappointed.

Zinnia Seeds - Profusion Double Hot Cherry
Store owner replied: Helllo Cindy. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. We are sorry to hear that the plants growing in the area where you sowed your Profusion Double Hot Cherry Zinnias did not match what you were expecting. We understand how disappointing that is, especially after looking forward to this variety. Growing conditions or planting location would not cause zinnia seeds to produce a different species. In some cases, dormant seeds already present in the soil can germinate alongside or instead of a new planting, making it difficult to determine the exact cause without further evaluation. Although we have not received other reports of this nature for this variety, we take your concerns seriously and have shared your experience with our Quality Control team for review. We also reached out by email to offer a resolution but haven't heard back yet. We'd still be happy to help, so please reply to our original email if you'd like to discuss the resolution options available. We want all of our customers to be happy with their purchases and achieve the beautiful results they're looking for, and we stand behind our products!
I absolutely LOVE the Profusion Double Hot Cherry! It is a true to it's picture. However, these zinnia seeds were coated with the yellow coating, and the germination was VERY poor. Out of the entire packet, 4 seeds germinated. I grew many many other varieties of zinnia this year, and all other seeds germinated well except this one. I wonder if it was because of the yellow coating? I love this variety, but I was super bummed that I only got 4 plants from the entire seed packet.

I am a very experienced gardener. Out of the entire packet, 1, I repeat - 1 seed germinated.. They are fresh seeds, ordered this spring. . Tried to start indoors. nothing. waited and tried the rest of the packet outdoors (I'm high zone 8) in my raised bed. My other zinnias from a company that starts with B are blooming from seed already.. I have one from this package that I'm nursing. Is this just the nature of the profusion series? Please send tips with these seeds. horrible. and what's with the yellow coating? .

Zinnia Seeds - Profusion Double Hot Cherry
Store owner replied: Hello Christine A. Thank you for sharing your experience with these seeds. We are very sorry to hear about the poor germination. The yellow coating is a pelleted seed coating used to make small seeds easier to handle and sow evenly. While helpful for planting, the coating must stay consistently moist during germination so it can fully soften and allow the seed to sprout. If the pellet dries out even briefly, it can reharden around the seed and prevent germination. For best results, pelleted seeds generally perform best in a fine seed-starting mix with gentle, consistent moisture using misting or bottom watering. We are also working on improving our planting instructions for coated seeds going forward. We previously reached out but have not yet heard back and want to be able to help you with a resolution and to have better results. Please feel free to reply to the original email, or contact our customer service team, if you would still like additional assistance. We always stand behind our seeds and want to help you have success!
Not one seed grew from this package of seeds. I also ordered the pink and white zinnia and had 8 plants grow and are blooming very nicely. Have not idea why they did not sprout or grow but did exactly the same as the pink and white and they are beautiful.

The profusion double hot cherry zinnias took longer than the other profusion zinnias to bloom for some reason, but when they did, they were strong, colorful & stunning zinnias. We were very impressed with these. Used them as mounding ground cover. These are a favorite due to the wonderful color!

I have to agree with the other reviewer, as these had a very low germination rate. There were only about 15 seeds in the whole packet and only two of those actually germinated for me.
